  • Diet and nutrition discussion
  • Growth monitoring
  • Body condition score

  • Mobility/arthritis assessment

Our Wellness Check-ups are aimed at generally well young pets up to mature adults and focus on preventative care, monitoring growth and promoting a healthy and happy companion.

Your pet will receive a head to tail physical examination including a weight check and body condition score, coat/skin condition, eyes/ears/teeth, heart rate, respiration, mobility check and hydration status. We will discuss nutrition, parasite prevention, dental hygiene, vaccination schedules, neutering discussions (if applicable).

Here at IW County Vet Nurse, we strongly believe that prevention is better than cure. Spotting issues early can mean fewer complications, less discomfort, and more happy, healthy years with your pet.

Should we find anything during a check that needs further attention, we'll talk it through with you and the advice will be given to contact your veterinary practice for further investigation. We can then work collaboratively with your vet to create the best plan for you and your pet going forward.

Our Senior Welfare Check-ups are aimed at our more senior companions. This check-up differs from our Wellness check as the aim is to detect age-related disease early, support in the management of ongoing chronic health issues, and maintain comfort and quality of life.

We offer a head-to-tail physical examination as above plus a blood pressure check and with more emphasis on the pet's needs at this life stage: More detailed questions about appetite, thirst, urination/defecation, sleep, exercise tolerance, pain, behaviour, cognition and mobility including a mobility/arthritis assessment.

  • Dental inspection
  • Dental charting
  • Tooth brushing and instructions for owners to continue at home

It's important to have your pet's teeth checked regularly to keep their mouth healthy and pain-free. Signs of dental discomfort can include being fussy with food, dropping or spitting food out and then re-eating it, drooling, pawing at the mouth, bad breath, or even facial swelling.

We carry out a thorough dental inspection in a gentle, fear-free way, with proper charting to help identify tartar buildup, gum disease, missing, worn or fractured teeth, and other abnormalities. Regular dental checks and a professional tooth-brushing service help maintain your pet's oral health.

We recommend and carry out brushing of your pet's teeth with an enzymatic toothpaste. This is one of the best ways to prevent dental problems and keep their smile shining.

Our home drop-in service is perfect for pets with medical needs, offering peace of mind when you can't be there.

We understand that administering medication can be challenging—whether it's scheduled at inconvenient times while you're at work, or your pet is tricky to medicate. Our experience means we can visit your home to safely and gently give any medication prescribed by your vet, following their instructions precisely.

Whether it's tablets, injections such as insulin, eye drops, or other treatments, we're here to help ensure your pet receives their care on time and with as little stress as possible.

Our pet taxi and vet visit chaperone service is designed to make vet trips stress free and convenient for both you and your pet. This tailored service is ideal for clients who may struggle with transport or prefer professional support for their pet's veterinary visits.

Our pet taxi service (£32) provides safe, insured transport to and from your booked vet appointment.

Alternatively, our chaperone service (£45) offers extra support. We can collect your pet, accompany them to their appointment, have your vet practice call for payment before departure, and on return, take plenty of time to discuss your vet's advice, explain any prescribed treatments, and create a clear medication schedule. This ensures your pet's care is seamless, safe, and well-coordinated.

Our canine and feline blood pressure monitoring service provides accurate, stress-free readings in the comfort of your pet’s home. We use a state of the art high-definition oscillometric monitor that operates quietly to minimise stress and obtain multiple readings, allowing us to create an accurate average of your pet’s systolic, diastolic and mean arterial pressure. Scientific studies show that home based blood pressure checks are far more reliable than those taken in a clinical setting, as pets are more relaxed in their familiar environment. We can then send these readings directly to your vet, enabling them to make a more precise diagnosis and develop the most effective treatment plan for your pet’s health.

Having a newly diagnosed diabetic pet can feel overwhelming, as managing diabetes requires strict glucose monitoring and time sensitive insulin injections.

Our diabetic pet support visits are designed to help you navigate this process with confidence and care. We can assist with regular glucose checks, administer insulin as prescribed by your vet, and take the time to demonstrate and teach you how to give injections yourself safely.

Our goal is to ensure both you and your pet feel supported and confident in managing their condition at home. We also carry a stock of insulin syringes should you need them urgently.

We understand that caring for an ageing or unwell pet can be emotionally challenging.

Our quality of life discussions offer compassionate guidance and support to help you assess your pet's comfort, mobility, and happiness. Together, we can discuss your pet's individual needs, create care plans to maintain their comfort, and provide honest advice when it comes to making difficult decisions.

You don't have to face these moments alone. We're here to support you every step of the way.

Some pets struggle to express their anal glands naturally, which can lead to discomfort, scooting, or even infection.

Our external anal gland expression service provides gentle and hygienic relief, helping to prevent irritation and more serious issues. We can also discuss other external factors which may aid in them relieving themselves more naturally in future.

Regular maintenance can keep your pet comfortable, reduce odour, and support overall wellbeing.

Nail Clip & Microchipping Services

Keeping your pet's nails trimmed and balanced is essential for their comfort and mobility. Overgrown nails can cause pain, posture issues, and even lead to injury.

Our nail clipping service is carried out calmly and gently, using fear-free handling techniques to ensure your pet feels safe and relaxed.

Regular trims help maintain healthy paws, prevent discomfort when walking and catching on clothing and carpets.

Microchipping is a simple but vital way to keep your pet safe and ensure they can be identified if lost.

In the UK, it is a legal requirement for all dogs to be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and since June 2024, this also applies to cats aged 20 weeks and over.

Our microchipping service is quick, safe, and provides you with peace of mind knowing your pet is registered and traceable.

IW County Vet Nurse not only has many years providing microchip implantation in veterinary practice, but is additionally accredited with PeddyMark (DEFRA compliant), ensuring the highest standards of safety, registration, and data security – for peace of mind and a speedy reunion if your pet ever goes missing.
